Capital Area United Way works to better the communities in our 10-parish region through service, advocacy, and civic engagement. Advocacy work consists of activities that help influence or support a policy, cause, or proposal. As a leading community impact organization, Capital Area United Way created an advocacy initiative in 2009 to help advance real and sustained change in community conditions.
The goal of the advocacy initiative is to educate and engage local, state and federal officials, their staff, non-profits, other policymakers, and the general public about the goals and priorities of Capital Area United Way. We hope to explain our organization’s community impact work; expertise in education, income, health, and basic needs; and available resources through our community partner agencies.
Since creating our advocacy initiative, we have met with representatives, hosted a "Day at the Capitol,” and begun planning a training session for area legislators, local officials and their staff. We look forward to continuing to play an active role in helping to improve our community
